 In the autumn of 1962, 31 year-old Ohio University instructor, Gene Isaac Stees, hit his estranged and pregnant wife over the head with a crowbar, then stuck a plastic bag over her head. The body was then placed into a steel drum and dumped into Dow Lake at Strouds Run. The ghost of Mrs. Stees has been seen walking the water's edge, wringing her hands in grief. Gene Isaac Stees escaped from prison in 1972 and he has never been apprehended.

Jefferson Hall is located on East Green at Ohio University. It was built in 1956 and opened in 1958. It was used as a dining hall and residence hall originally housing female students. It was 1996 when the first reports of the ghostly apparition of a lady appeared to students in an upper room.
